Frequently asked questions
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
Not when you use the app on your own. Every record stays on your device until you delete it or choose to share it yourself, for example by exporting a PDF.
If you join your department's account (in pilot now), the app sends your officers a short summary of each code you scribe after joining: no dates, times, incident numbers, notes or patient details, and the full record still stays on your phone. The exact list is on the departments page, and the app shows it to you before you join. See the Privacy Policy.
Does the app tell me what dose or shock energy to give?
No. CodeScribe EMS is a documentation aid, not clinical decision support. Pre-filled values, like a suggested epinephrine dose, are editable defaults that save taps. Always record what was actually given, following your protocols and medical direction.
Can I use it for pediatric patients?
Yes. Switch to Pediatric and enter an estimated weight, and the logged defaults for medications and shock energy become weight-based. Every value stays editable.
I logged something wrong. Can I fix it?
Yes. Tap any entry in the timeline, during or after the code, to edit its time or details or delete it. There's also an undo button during an active code for the most recent entry.
Does it work without cell service or Wi-Fi?
Yes. CodeScribe EMS works entirely offline.
How do I get my record out of the app?
On the code summary screen, use Copy narrative for a chart-ready text summary, or Share PDF to export a formatted timeline.
Can my department use the same setup on every phone?
Yes. With a department account (in pilot now), your training officer sets the buttons, timers and option lists once and every member's phone picks them up, and can lock them. See For departments. Without one, an officer can share their setup as a file from Settings, then Department, and crews import it.
How do I join my department?
If your department uses CodeScribe EMS, follow Join your department. You'll need the join code from your training officer.
For training officers
The dashboard won't send me a code
Sign in to the app first, under Settings, then Department account, with the same email. The dashboard only signs in people who already have an account from the app. If you used Sign in with Apple and chose Hide My Email, use that address (it ends in privaterelay.appleid.com); the code still reaches your inbox.
Who can be an officer?
Whoever set the department up comes in as its officer. Any officer can make another member an officer from the Roster tab, and a department always keeps at least one. If you're the only officer and lose access, email us.
What happens when I publish a protocol?
Every member's phone picks it up the next time the app opens with a signal, from the home screen, never during a code. If you lock it, members can't change their buttons while they're in the department. The roster shows which revision each phone has, so you can see who hasn't opened the app yet.
A summary hasn't shown up
Summaries wait a random 12 to 72 hours on the phone before they're sent, and they go when the app is open on the home screen with a signal. Codes marked as training aren't sent, and neither are codes from before the member joined.
