Join your department
1. Get the app
Install CodeScribe EMS from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
Department accounts are in pilot right now. If your department is piloting, your officer will send you a TestFlight invite instead. TestFlight is Apple's app for test versions: install TestFlight, open the invite link, and tap Install.
2. Sign in
Open CodeScribe EMS, go to Settings, then Department account. Sign in with Apple, or with your email: tap Email me a code and type the code from the email.
You only need an account to join a department. Using the app on your own never needs one.
3. Enter the join code
Type the join code (capitals and the dash don't matter) and your name as your department knows you, then tap Join department. Before you join, the app shows exactly what your department will see.
If it says you're waiting for approval, your officer approves new members by hand or the department is out of seats. Once they approve you, tap Check again.
What happens after you join
- Your phone picks up the department's buttons and timers the next time the app opens with a signal, never during a code. If your department locks them, you can't change them while you're a member.
- After each code you scribe, a short summary goes to your officers 12 to 72 hours later. It has no dates, times, incident numbers, notes, or patient details. The full record stays on your phone.
- Each summary has a share code, shown on the finished code. If your officer asks about a call by its share code, use Find a code in Settings, then Department account, to see which one it was.
- Ran a code for training? Turn on "Training, don't count this" on the finished code and it isn't counted. Delete a code from your phone and it's taken back from your department too.
The full list of what your department sees and what's never sent is on the departments page.
Leaving
In Settings, then Department account, tap Leave department. Your buttons stay as they are and become yours to edit again, and codes you scribe from then on aren't sent. Delete account removes your sign-in and your place on the roster; your records on the phone aren't touched.
Something not working?
The join code doesn't work
Check it with your officer. Officers can replace a code that got out, and the old one stops working.
The email code never came
Give it a minute and check spam. Then tap Email me a code again.
Still stuck
Email support@codescribeems.org with your department's name. Please don't include patient information.
